Clinical Areas covered
Weight management
Whether you are looking for lose, maintain or gain weight, YLN offers a structured plan suited to your own individual needs and circumstances. Not only will I help you to achieve your goals but also help nurture lifelong positive food habits and health.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
The symptoms of IBS can be a source of stress and disruption to daily activities. YLN uses an evidence-based diet plan to alleviate symptoms and improve gut health for the long-term. Success rates using this approach for the treatment of IBS are high.
Diabetes
A diagnosis of diabetes can be overwhelming and confusing. Understanding how diet affects both the condition and the treatment is paramount in reducing the risk of future health complications.
Taking into account your circumstances, medication and health goals, YLN can help you to control the condition and achieve a balanced diet. I have worked extensively with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.
Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome (PCOS)
Weight gain is one of the most common side effects in PCOS which has been shown to further exacerbate symptoms and increase risk of fertility problems. Adjusting dietary intake has been shown to improve the symptoms associated with PCOS. A plan is agreed taking into account lifestyle, activity and current diet.
Cardiovascular Disease
Being overweight, high blood pressure and high cholesterol are all risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). All can be modified by changes to our diet and physical activity levels. Whether you have recently suffered a cardiac event, or have been identified as at risk, YLN can work with you to improve your nutritional status. I also run healthy eating workshops for the prevention of CVD.
Cholesterol-Lowering
Although essential for life, high blood cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for heart disease as it can lay down fatty plaques in our arteries over time. Adjustments to diet can reduce your levels of 'bad' LDL cholesterol whilst improving 'good' HDL levels. Often people are unaware of their cholesterol status and the importance of knowing this increases with age. YLN can provide a cholesterol testing service.
Coeliac Disease
Coeliac Disease is an auto-immune disease which affects approximately 1 in 100 people many of whom remain undiagnosed. A strict gluten-free diet must be followed to avoid health complications associated with the disease. Using a structured plan, YLN can help you to achieve optimum nutritional status whilst avoiding gluten and help in identifying foods containing it.
Weaning, Child and Adolescent nutrition
Weaning is a critical time to introduce foods to your child following breast/formula feeding. My interactive workshop will help you to safely introduce foods at the right time and gain a greater understanding of key nutrients for your baby's development.
I offer fun but evidence-based workshops for Children from 1-5 and 5-11 years with a focus on improving overall nutritional intake, strategies for dealing with picky eating behaviour and interactive food-based activities to improve the mealtime experience for both children and parents.
Teen and young adult workshops can be tailored to each group. Eating well for energy, exam performance and sports nutrition are just a few of these popular sessions.
All of the above can be offered as individual or group sessions.
Allergies and Intolerances
A diagnosis of a food allergy can be worrying, especially with so much confusing advice out there and it can be difficult to know the best path to follow. Understanding your diagnosis and working together to ensure you achieve optimal nutrition whilst successfully avoiding the offending allergen is essential.
Whether a food intolerance has been diagnosed or you suspect that you may have one, YLN can look at presenting symptoms and your dietary intake to make a full assessment and diagnosis.
Sports Nutrition
Our physical performance is greatly affected by our nutritional intake. Whether you are just about to embark on an activity programme, are training for a marathon or simply want to get the best out of your performance, I can work with you to achieve this.
Your nutrition plan will take into account your current lifestyle and activity levels, your goals and any time constraints.
I also work with athletes seeking to gain weight, improve their intake of specific nutrients or improve their nutritional status prior to competition.
